Women's Basketball Drops Second Half of Weekend Trip to Ohio

Cincinatti, OH – Alma College Women's Basketball continued play at the Lauren Hill Classic on Saturday afternoon. Alma got off to a hot start, but couldn't hold off a charge from victorious Franklin College.

The Scots jumped out to a 14-3 advantage early on in the game, weathering a small Grizzlies storm to sustain a 7-point lead at the end of the quarter, leading 22-15. In the opening minutes of the second quarter, Alma and Franklin went basket for basket. The Scots used an extended run in the middle of the quarter to build up a 12-point lead at 37-25. Franklin picked it up towards the end of the period, but Alma was able to hang on to a 41-34 advantage heading into the locker room.

Out of the gates in the third quarter, Alma was able to sustain their lead over Franklin, with the Grizzlies starting to eat away at the gap as the frame wore on. The opposition took the lead at 54-51 with under 4 minutes to play in the period, and never looked back. The Scots offensive production dipped towards the end of the quarter, and Alma used a short burst at the end to find themselves trailing 59-55.

Franklin led by as much as 13 in the fourth quarter, holding Alma at bay for most of the period. The Scots found some scoring late to drop the gap to 6, but the Grizzlies nailed a late three to put things to bed. 85-73 was the final.

Breckyn Werner (22 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks) Molly Duerloo (14 points, 5 rebounds) and Emmerson Goodin (9 points, 10 rebounds) were key contributors in the loss.
