Men's Wrestling Battles in First Duals of the Season at Olivet

OLIVET, Mich. – The Alma College men's wrestling team returned to action after a week hiatus, traveling south on 127 to The University of Olivet for the Comet Duals on Saturday, November 23rd. The Scots faced off against King's College (PA), Henry Ford Community College, and John Carroll University for the day.

In their first dual of the day, Alma went head-to-head with King's College, but would fall by a final score of 32-15. Alma picked up their first points of the day when Rodrick Love was able to pin his opponent Bret Murphy to the mat in 3:40, tallying six points for the Scots, bringing the score to 24-6 at the time. Doug Morris then picked up a win two matches later in the 197 bout, defeating Rich Fronheiser in a close match by decision, 4-2, picking up three points. Brody Miskimon rounded out the dual as he would also pin his competitor, Nick Valenzano, in just 46 seconds to add another six points for the Scots.

Alma returned to the mat shortly after their first dual to face off against Henry Ford Community College for the second of the three duals on the day. The Scots picked up their first win of the dual in the 141 division as Jaymes Wildfong defeated Daniel Gonzalez-Cancel, giving Alma six points. Cael Huggler then picked up the next Scots victory as he defeated Alex Messing in a close match called by decision, 7-4, adding another three points. Dakota Forgash tacked on the points and defeated Chase Foster by major decision, 11-3, scoring Alma four points and bringing the score to 20-13 in favor of Henry Ford. Brody Miskimon rounded out the second match with a win as well as he would defeat Luis Martinez by fall in 2:55, bringing the final score to 26-19 Henry Ford.

In the final match of the day for Alma, the Scots took to the mat against John Carroll University. The Blue Streaks jumped out to a 28-0 lead before Alma was able to put points on the board in the 165 match. Carter Melonio defeated Sam Partain by fall at the 5:46 mark, tallying six points for the Scots. The Scots would be held scoreless for the rest of the dual against a Blue Streaks team that currently has two wrestlers ranked top 20 in all of Division III in their respective weight classes. The final score of the day would finish 47-6.

Alma will now have some time to regroup before returning to the mats on December 7th, as they will travel to nationally-ranked Ohio Northern University to take place in the ONU Invitational. The matches are set to being around 9:00 AM.
