Alma, Mich. – Alma College Women's Soccer welcomed The University of Olivet to Scotland Yard on Saturday, October 26th, for senior day. Graduates on the team include Jacqueline Daigneault, Sophia Cooney, and Kylie Lewis. The LGBTQIA+ community was also recognized as Lavender week at Alma College was wrapped up with the women's soccer pride game.
In a match where the Scots were trailing 2-0 in the first half, the comeback started when Maddie Smith cut the deficit to one on a header five minutes before the break. Allyson Harvey tied the match midway through the second half and then Bryn Bishop booted a corner kick off the post and into the net in the 72nd minute to give Alma a 3-2 victory. The goals for Smith, Harvey, and Bishop marked their firsts as collegiate athletes.
The Comets started the scoring early, knocking in a goal five minutes into the match. They would score again in the 39th minute to extend their lead to 2-0. Looking to flip the momentum, Alma found their spark in the 41st minute with Harvey recording an assist on a cross that was headed into the net by Smith to bring the score to 2-1 at halftime.
The defense stepped up for Alma in the second half as they kept the Comets to two goals until the final horn. The Scots offense continued to attack and tied the match in the 66th minute with a goal from Harvey off an assist from Anna Waterstredt. Six minutes later, Bishop banked in a corner kick off the side post to give Alma a one goal lead. Olivet tried to even the match with two shots on goal in the final 10 minutes, but both chances were saved by Mya Pofahl to give the Scots a 3-2 victory.
Pofahl earned her first collegiate win in goal and saved six shots on the day.
Alma will finish out their season at home on Wednesday, October 30th, at 3:30 pm against Albion College.
