Alma, MI – Alma College Football hosted The University of Olivet on Saturday. The Scots won in blowout fashion, 67-14.
Alma opened the scoring early in the game. Scoring on their first possession with a 28-yard pass from
Carter St. John to
Jordan Williams. Up 6-0, Alma added another touchdown, an 81 yard deep shot from St. John to
Devon Frenchko. The scoring pass was the 85
th of his career, and made St. John the leading touchdown passer in program history. The Scots took a 13-0 lead into the quarter break.
Olivet scored on the first play of the second quarter, and Alma needed just 4 plays to find the endzone, with St. John connecting on a 37 yard scoring pass to
Brayden Sullivan to make it 19-7. Getting it done through the air, Alma's QB used his legs to score minutes later, with St. John scampering in from 12 yards out. Olivet scored once more, and Alma sustained a 10-play drive to work the clock. Alma scored on a 4
th down play, which was called back on a hold. The Scots proceeded to score on the very next 4
th down replay to make it 33-14. That lead held to the half.
It was all Alma out of the half.
Devon Frenchko hauled in a 39 yard pass to open the scoring under 2 minutes into the third quarter. The Scots piled on the points with scoring rushes from
Jordan Williams,
Kahleel Brown, and
Eddie Williams. The lead had ballooned to 60-14 by the end of three.
The final scoring play of the contest was
Davin Reif tossing a screen to
Dylan Cragg, who scored from 8 yards out. The final score landed at 67-14.
The Scots were wildly efficient in the victory, averaging over 10 yards per play, and racking up 67 points and 580 yards in just 21 minutes of possession time.
Carter St. John was clinical, going 15-18 for 374 passing yards and 6 total TDs (5 Pass, 1 Rush). St. John also led Scots rushers with 55 yards on the ground.
Devon Frenchko hauled in 5 passes for 153 yards and a pair of scores to lead all receivers in the game.
Vindarr Soffredine led all tacklers in the game with 10 total tacklers. Alma got a fumble recovery from
Jett King, and interceptions from
Tyler Walters, and Mar'Sean Massenberg.
Alma used 5 different kickers in the win. Josh Hernandez led the kicking game with 4 of 5 made PATs.
Dylan Day went 3 of 3 in relief.
The Scots look forward to a November 2 date with Trine, where the Scots will celebrate Senior Day.
