Football Rolls Trine in Senior Day Win

Alma, MI – Alma College Football hosted Trine University on Saturday in MIAA conference play. The Scots were victorious on senior day by a score of 41-16.

Trine opened the scoring on the first drive of the game with a 24-yard field goal. Down 3-0, Alma's offense stalled before finding its legs to score on a Carter St. John 28-yard touchdown rush with 0:08 left in the opening frame.

Alma kept up the pressure in the second quarter, with a few stalled drives giving way to a Kahleel Brown 17-yard TD run that capped a 9 play, 93-yard drive. With 7:58 to go, the Scots led 14-3. Alma tacked on another touchdown with some trickery that would make Detroit Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell smile. On the 11 yard line, St. John completed a comeback pass to Ty Lotterman at the 6, who pitched the ball to senior tackle Reese Townsend, who rumbled 8 yards into the endzone to put Alma up 21-3 at halftime.

Alma really put it on out of the half, with an Eddie Williams 11-yard TD rush opening the scoring under 2 minutes into the quarter. Trine was able to answer with a touchdown of their own, but doinked the upright on the PAT, leaving the score at 28-9. Williams scored again, and a TD pass from St. John to Zach Poff capped the Scots scoring at 41-9. The Thunder tacked on one more touchdown with under 2 minutes to play, bringing the final score to 41-16.

Carter St. John completed 20 of 29 passes for 290 yards and 2 TDs through the air. Eddie Williams rushed for 79 yards and a pair of scores on the ground. Devon Frenchko led all receivers in the game with 5 grabs for 143 yards.

Jett King led the Scots tacklers with 11 tackles in the game. Alma got sacks out of Ryan Kugelman, Ja'Martae Hogan, Jerome Roberson, Evan Eastman, and Jalen Dunwoody. Brock Beaudrie came away with a beautiful one handed pick on the run.

Alma moves to 6-2, and travels to Kalamazoo College on Saturday.
