Volleyball Scores Crucial 5-Set Win Over Olivet

Olivet, MI – Alma College Volleyball traveled to The University of Olivet on Saturday to take on the Comets in MIAA conference action. The Scots earned a crucial win to help their playoff odds, winning 3-2.

The opening set saw Alma take an early 9-5 lead, before the Comets battled back to a 13-13 draw. The Scots tried to pull away, but Olivet held on, forcing a 23-23 tie late. Alma found the final two points from Callie Smith and Reagan Thorr to take the opener 25-23. Olivet turned the tables in the second set. The Comets went on a huge run, leading by as much as 10 at 17-7 before Alma found their footing. The Scots managed to find some offense late, but it was too late, with Olivet taking the set 25-17. The Comets looked poised to keep the momentum in the third set, racing out to a 7-2 lead. Alma took that momentum right back, battling to a 13-13 tie, and then taking the lead at 14-13. The teams went point for point down to the wire, with Alma claiming another 25-23 set win.

Olivet took the fourth set, gradually opening up a gap that Alma was unable to overcome. A late push saw the Comets take the set 25-17. In the fifth set, there was no margin between the two teams. Going point-for-point, all the way to 11-11. Finally, Alma was able to put together a decisive 4-0 run to take the game, with Olivia Deeb landing the final blow.
