Sas Scores 29 in Women's Basketball's Loss to Calvin

Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball hosted Calvin University in MIAA play on Wednesday night. The Scots fell to the Knights by a final of 70-55.

Alma held an early advantage in the game. The Scots took their first lead at 7:56 in the opening frame, and didn't give intend on giving it back. Alma made shots, and found stops throughout the period. The home side forced multiple timeouts from Calvin, and walked into the first break up 22-15.

After shooting 57% in the first quarter, things went off the rails for the Scots. Shots stopped falling for Alma, and Calvin slowly worked their way back into the game. The visitors took the lead at 1:19 remaining in the half, which turned out to be the only time they would take that lead. At halftime, Calvin held a 33-32 lead.

Alma's offense remained stagnant through most of the third quarter. The team was held to 3 points for a majority of the frame, allowing the visitors to pull ahead. Alma shot 3 of 13 from the floor, but a short burst from the Scots at the end saw them go into the break trailing by 10.

In a foul filled fourth quarter, the Scots were held to 3 of 8 from the floor, knocking down 8 of 13 free throws. Despite several pushes from the home five, they weren't able to reel the Knights back in. In the end, it wasn't enough, and Calvin pulled away to a 70-55 win.

Taylor Sas (29 Points, 6 Rebounds) Brooke LeRoux (9 Points, 6 Rebounds) and Maddie Robbins ( 5 Points, 2 Steals) were the leaders in the loss.

Alma drops to 10-11, and 6-6 in MIAA play. As the regular season winds down, the Scots look forward to a big one on Saturday against Trine.
