Second Half Sinks Women's Basketball Against Trine

Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball hosted Trine University in MIAA play on Saturday. The Scots gave the Thunder a run, but fell in the end by a final of 60-51.

The game started off on a very defensive note, with the opening basket taking 4 minutes to find the scoreboard, in the form of a Madelyn Weber layup. Alma held Trine off the board for another minute, and it took the Thunder over half the quarter to crack the Scots defense. Trine promptly went up 10-3, but Alma ended the quarter on a 7-0 run to end the quarter tied at 10.

Alma's stout defense continued into the second, with the Scots holding Trine to 11 points in the quarter. Alma held the visitors to 7-30 shooting in the first half, and the Scots offense finally gained traction. The score was tied at 20 with 4:37 to play, but Alma pumped in an 8-1 run to close the period, and led 28-21 at the break.

The second half was the complete opposite of the script. Alma scored first on a Breckyn Werner layup, but Trine proceeded to score 9 straight, erasing the Alma lead and tying the game. The two teams scored blow for blow with each other, and it took everything in the Scots arsenal, but they led 40-38 after three.

The fourth quarter started the same as the third. Alma scored first on a layup from Brooke LeRoux, before Trine scored 13 straight to take a 9-point advantage at 51-42. The lead for the visitors ballooned up to as much at 12, before the Scots cut it down to its final value 9.

The loss drops Alma to 10-12 and 6-7 in MIAA play. The Scots have a week to get things turned around before a road date with Saint Mary's on February 10.
