Albion, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball headed down to rival Albion to take on the Britons in MIAA play. Alma was defeated after suffering a slow start, 68-51 the final.
The Scots got off to a much less than ideal start, with Albion scoring first, and holding Alma scoreless for the first 2:30 of the game.
Brooke LeRoux finally lifted the lid with a layup at the 7:35 mark. However, that would be the only Scots basket until the 2:23 mark. In that 5 minute span, the Brits pushed their way out to a 15-2 lead. After being held to 16% from the floor, Alma finished up the quarter trailing 21-7.
The Scots struggled once again to score opening the second quarter. Looks just wouldn't fall, and the Scots needed 4:30 to score their first bucket, a layup from
Taylor Sas. At that point, the lead had grown to 22 for Albion, and the Scots fought valiantly to keep it from growing any larger. The offense picked up toward the end of the period, and the visitors outscored the home five by 6 to go into the locker room trailing by 16.
Out of the half, the Britons continued to stymie the Scots offense. Alma was held to 33% from the floor, and just 16% from three. The Scots scored 5 points to open the quarter, dropping the lead to 11, but Albion answered immediately, pushing the lead to 18. The teams traded jabs, with Albion keeping the lead around 15-18. The Brits led by 20 after three.
Alma's offense finally took hold to open the fourth, and the Scots mounted a furious charge. The lead shrunk down to 11 in the first half of the period, but Alma ran out of steam as the frame wore on, and the Britons pulled away to a 17 point win.
Brooke LeRoux (15 Points, 3 Rebounds, 2 Steals) and
Taylor Sas (12 Points, 4 Rebounds, 2 Steals) were the leaders in the loss.
The Scots drop to 10-10, and 6-5 in the MIAA. They have a crucial home date with Calvin on Wednesday.
