Sas' 28 Sees Women's Basketball Cruise to MIAA Road Win at Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball traveled West to Kalamazoo to continue MIAA conference play on Wednesday. The Scots scored early and often, growing a big lead by half and cruising to the win.

It was the Taylor Sas show early as Alma jumped out to a quick lead in the opening frame, fueled by the MIAA's leading scorer going to work from downtown. The senior nailed home three attempts from downtown and added another tough bucket inside, scoring 11 points to lead the efforts for Alma. She was aided by Molly Duerloo, who nabbed 4 board and dished a pair of assists as the Scots opened up a 25-10 advantage.

Alma scored the first 7 points of the second quarter before the Hornets could answer, and in the blink of an eye the lead was 22. Alma continued to find small runs that the home side struggled to break up. Kalamazoo strung together a small run to keep the gap under 20, and Alma led 49-31 at the break.

It was another huge Alma run that opened up the third quarter. The Scots welcomed Kalamazoo back to their home floor with a 12-0 run, which continued after the Hornets lifted the lid and saw Alma lead by as much as 31. Balanced scoring helped Alma guide themselves to a 75-50 advantage at the end of three.

Kalamazoo fought hard in the fourth quarter, holding Alma to just 8 points, but the gap proved to be just too large. The Scots walked out winners at a final of 83-64.

Taylor Sas (28 Points) Molly Duerloo (11 Points, 8 Rebounds, 4 Assists) and Breckyn Werner (11 Points, 6 Rebounds, 2 Blocks) were the big leaders in the W for Alma.

The win brings the Scots to 8-9 and an even 4-4 in MIAA play. The Scots are back in action on Saturday with a trip to Adrian.
