Alma, MI – Alma College Volleyball hosted MIAA opponent Adrian College on Friday night. The Scots fought hard, but saw the Bulldogs pull away to take the win in straight sets, 28-26, 25-15, and 25-19.
The Bulldogs raced out to a quick lead in the opening set, but Alma clawed their way back into the game, pushing for a tie, and taking the lead to force an Adrian timeout. The Scots went point for point with the visitors, taking things all the way down the wire. Alma had a pair of chances to close the set out, but Adrian extended the set, and pushed to the win at 28-26. The Adrian attack became much harder to stop in the second set, as the Bulldogs cruised to a 25-15 win behind .400 hitting. The final set started with the Scots taking an early advantage, which quickly evaporated, thanks to more lights out Adrian hitting. A pair of lengthy delays allowed for teams to catch a breather, and Alma made a run towards the end of the set, but couldn't bring things all the way level, dropping the set 25-19.
Sienna Sahr led the Scots offense, bagging 12 kills.
Brooke LeRoux tallied 10 kills as well.
Lexi Dykstra assisted on 18 occasions, also recording a pair of aces in the loss.
Kolbey Boyd recorded a game high 18 digs, with Dykstra and Sahr digging out 11 balls.
Callie Smith led efforts at the net, with 5 total blocks. LeRoux (2) and
Brianna Wallace (1) each aided the net defense.
The Scots drop to 10-7, 0-2 in MIAA play, and will be at home against Albion on October 3.
