Volleyball Battles Hard in Loss to Albion

Alma, MI – Alma College Volleyball welcomed Albion College in on Tuesday to continue MIAA conference play. The Scots battled hard, but were bested in 3 close sets by the opposition; 25-22, 25-20, and 25-21.

The opening set saw Alma go up early and fly out to a big lead. The Scots were up 17-7, forcing Albion to take their second timeout. However, the Brits came out of the timeout a different team, and stormed back, using a 18-5 run to complete the comeback and take the set.

The second set of the contest was quite the opposite of the first. Albion took the early lead at 12-4, extending it to 19-9. The Scots then rattled off 6 straight points to close the gap to just 3 points. The teams traded a pair of 3 point runs, with Albion using one final push to take the set.

The third set was the most competitive of the three. The teams played point for point through the first 14 rallies, until Alma was finally able to rip off a 5 point run to take an 11-7 lead, only for Albion to respond with 4 straight of their own. Once again, the hosts traded runs of 4 and 5 points with the visitors, and the teams found themselves locked at 18-18. The Britons would have the final push go in their favor, taking the set and the game.

Sienna Sahr tallied 14 kills, with Brooke LeRoux adding 10. Madison Bott also burst on to the scene, landing 11 kills. Lexi Dykstra led in assists with 29 total in the game, and Brooke LeRoux had a pair of aces contributing from the service line.

Dykstra and Kolbey Boyd each had 12 digs, with Sylvia Peterson also recording 11. Sahr and Kalista Bancroft combined for the lone Scots block of the game.

The Scots drop to 10-8, 0-3 MIAA and will have the weekend bye before traveling to Kalamazoo on Tuesday.
