Washington, MI – Alma College Women's Soccer took to the road for a matinee contest against Rochester University (MI) on Wednesday. Alma was outgunned by a Warriors squad who has now won 5 straight, falling 7-3.
The game featured 10 goals, 5 in each half, and the home side got the scoring started at 8:00 to take a 1-0 lead. The Scots responded just minutes later, with
Ella Lavey converting from the penalty spot to level the game at 1-1. Rochester wouldn't be held down, and jumped on the visitors, scoring 3 goals in 13 minutes to take a 4-1 advantage that they carried to into halftime.
Rochester opened up the second half scoring, landing a mark at 48:45 to make it 5-1 Warriors.
Lily Stephan linked up with
Paige Kohler to score just under 2:30 minutes later at 51:15, and
Abigail Dawes struck twine at 53:39. In the blink of an eye, the Scots pulled to within 2 at 5-3. However, the Rochester offense fired in a pair of goals to seal the game, and it finished at 7-3.
Lavey scored their first goal of the season, while Dawes and Kohler tallied their second.
Lily Stephan's assist was the second of the 2023 campaign.
Alma drops to 0-5 after running through a rather tough non-conference slate to open the year. The Scots will be back in action on September 26 at Kalamazoo.
