Sandusky, OH – Alma College Volleyball continued their 2023 opening weekend slate in Ohio on Saturday. The Scots won both of their matchups en route to extending their win streak to 3 matches.
Alma 3, Shenandoah 1
Alma got off to a flying start, winning the first two sets to take a firm hold on the match. The Scots hit a blistering .361 in the opening set, totaling 19 kills in the first frame, and followed it up with a .303 in set two. The Scots had a chance to close out the match in the third set, but Sehnandoah managed to squeak it out at 28-26. The Scots didn't waste any further time, as they turned it up in the fourth set, winning 25-21.
The offense went through Brooke LeRoux. The junior racked up 24 kills, and
Sienna Sahr added 13 more.
Madison Neu also contributed 9 kills to the effort. LeRoux also capitalized from the service line, with 3 aces in the contest. The setting duo of
Lexi Dykstra and
Vicky Villarosa both tossed 26 assists apiece.
In terms of blocking,
Ashlyn Michalski and Sahr both sent back a pair of attacks in the win.
Kolbey Boyd dug out 25 balls, with LeRoux and Sahr both adding 11 to the defensive effort.
Alma 3, Mt. Aloysius 1
Following their opening game win, the Scots took on Mt Aloysius. The Scots dropped the opening set 25-22. Alma barely squeaked out a 25-23 win in set two, leveling things up at 1-1. The first two set scores set things up for a close game. However, the Scots had other plans. Alma turned things up, hitting a game best .265 in the third set to win 25-16, before winning the game in the fourth set 25-17. The defense was really what pushed things over, as Mt Aloysius posted.029 and .079 for hitting percentages in the final two frames.
With Brooke LeRoux starring in the morning game, Alma's star in game two was
Sienna Sahr. The first year posted 11 kills and added a game high 5 aces to lead the team in total points. LeRoux continued to take off, with a team high 12 kills and 3 aces.
Reagan Thorr hammered home 10 kills, and
Kolbey Boyd also landed 3 aces. Boyd, Sahr, and LeRoux accounted for 11 of the 16 aces that Alma scored in the contest.
Lexi Dykstra recorded 25 assists, and
Vicky Villarosa added 14.
Defensively,
Kolbey Boyd totaled 28 digs in the match, and
Lexi Dykstra recorded 14, as did Brooke LeRoux.
Ashlyn Michalski headed up the net efforts for Alma with 4 attacks returned to the sender.
The Scots move their win streak to 3, and look forward to next weeks NCAC/MIAA Crossover at Wooster.
