Women's Soccer Defeated By Kenyon

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College women's soccer team hosted the Owls of Kenyon College on Saturday, September 2nd. The Scots were ousted by the Owls by a final score 3-1 at Scotland Yard.

Kenyon jumped out of that gate and took an early lead just over 13 minutes into the game on a goal from the right side. The Scots would begin to regain momentum later in the first half with two shots from Lily Stephan and Paige Kohler. Several minutes later the Scots put two more shots on net but couldn't get one passed the keeper, before ultimately the Owls would tally another goal with three minutes remaining in the first. Alma headed into the half trailing 2-0.

Starting out the second half, Alma applied early pressure and were close to getting the breakthrough they needed. Just seven minutes in, Paige Kohler had the ball end up in her vicinity and sent a shot towards the left side of the goal that ended up getting behind the keeper to put Alma within one with over 35 minutes remaining. The Scots then used that momentum in the offensive zone looking to tie the game but Kenyon would add an insurance goal just several minutes later. Alma continued to put shots on net and push the offense but in the end, Alma did not get another goal and would fall to the Owls by a final score of 3-1.

Kohler led the way for Alma in the shots category with four shots over the game and Stephan followed behind with three shots. Kohler also led the way with two shots on goal as Abigail Dawes had one.

Alma will be back in action on Thursday, September 7th, as they host Madonna University. The game will begin at 4:00 PM at Scotland Yard on the campus of Alma College.
