Box Score 2 OLIVET, Mich. – The Alma College baseball team traveled south on 127 to Olivet for their final regular season MIAA conference doubleheader on the road. The Scots continued their conference success with two more wins over the Comets by the final scores of 20-2 and 5-4.
In game one, Alma put the first runs of the game on the board in the second inning from a Kevin Tuttle single that scored Cameron Bleasdale and Ethan Krafft, who both reached first on singles. In the third, Stephen McGlade added another run onto the board with a solo shot over the left center wall to pit Alma on top 3-0. McGlade did not stop there though as in the fourth, his single to left center added another RBI as Kyler Warren came across homeplate before McGlade would make it home on a Krafft sacrifice fly to right field. Dalton D'Alexander would double to left center in the fourth to keep the Scots hot and allow for Bleasdale to score before Tuttle drove in some additional runs. Hitting a single to center field, Tuttle would score Mitch Foley and D'Alexander which put the Scots on top 10-0 heading into the bottom of the inning.
The Comets scored one of their two runs of the game in the fourth on a sacrifice fly, but the Scots were not phased. In the fifth, Warren joined into the solo homerun fun with one of his own over the left field wall to put Alma back on top by double-digits again. Again, the Comets would sneak a run across in the bottom if the fifth, but it would not be enough to slow down the Scots offense on Saturday. In the sixth, Avery Carnicom would draw a walk on a wild pitch which allowed for Foley to score to score the first run of the inning. Jacob Cornman then scored Tuttle with a single and advanced Carnicom to second before Warren also singled and sent Carnicom home and Cornman to third base. Cornman ended up scoring on a wild pitch and Warren advanced to third as the only baserunner for Alma with zero outs. Stephen McGlade continued his impressive day with a single to left field to add another RBI as Warren scored putting the Scots up 16-2. D'Alexander continued the offense with a double to left field, scoring Bleasdale and McGlade for an additional two runs in the sixth. The final run of the inning for Alma came as Tuttle grounded out to shortstop, drawing the attention away from homeplate and allowing for D'Alexander to score the 19th run of the game. Sheldon Huff would drive on the final run of game one with a double to right field, sending Cornman home and giving Alma their 20-2 final score for game one.
Tyler Johnson started on the mound for game one and pitched for three innings while recording four strikeouts.
In game two, the Scots took the first lead of the game again, this time with Tuttle scoring the first run on an RBI triple to left center, sending D'Alexander home and putting Alma on the board first. Carnicom added another homerun to his record-breaking season with a two-run shot for his 14th of the season. Th Scots held a 3-1 lead after two innings of play and looked to add on in the third. The Scots tacked on a solo run in the third after Bleasdale scored on a wild pitch to put Alma up 4-1. D'Alexander finished his day in game two with a sacrifice fly out to right field in the sixth inning which was able to score Tony Smith and give alma a four-run lead heading into the final innings. The Comets fought back hard and were able to score three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but the comeback would be stopped short and Alma would leave Olivet with a series win and a chance for the sweep on Sunday in Alma.
Cole Grunwald got the nod for the start in game two as he pitched six innings with four strikeouts and was awarded the win. Davin Reif and Case Balhoff both saw action on the bump for the day and each recorded two strikeouts in game two.
Alma will now host the final regular season game of the year at Klenk Park on Sunday, May 7th as well as honor their seniors for senior day. First pitched is slated for 2:00 PM.
