Box Score

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College baseball team hosted the Britons of Albion College for a midday game on Friday, April 7th. The Scots scored first and never looked back as they beat the Britons by a final score of 7-1 to stay undefeated at Klenk Park.

Alma struck first in the bottom of the second inning when leadoff hitter Mac Hawley wore a pitch on his sleeve and was sent to first. Cameron Bleasdale trailed behind with a single to right center, advancing Hawley to second. Mitch Foley ended up grounding out to shortstop but both runners advance putting them into scoring position. Kevin Tuttle then singled to third base and allowed for Hawley to score putting Alma on the board. Avery Carnicom followed up with a double down the left field line which scored Bleasdale and advanced Tuttle to third. The Scots would head into the third inning with a 2-0 lead.

The Scots tallied on another in the fourth as Dalton Hall reached first on an error. Hall would advance forward a base during the next two batters and reach third with one out. Carnicom ended up reaching first on a fielder's choice as Tuttle was thrown out at second but Hall scored, making the Alma lead now 3-0. The Britons would score their only run of the game in the top of the fifth to put themselves on the board.

Alma would continue to add more runs in the seventh as Tuttle hit a leadoff double to right center field. Carnicom then was walked and both runners advanced on a passed ball during the next at bat. Wyatt Nyswaner then hit a single to left center and advanced Carnicom to third as Tuttle crossed home. Nyswaner ended up stealing second during the next at bat to put both Scots runners into scoring position. Kyler Warren sent Carnicom home with a single just over the shortstops glove, now giving Alma a 5-1 lead. The scoring kept coming as in the eighth, Bleasdale drew a walk before Foley doubled down the left field line and scored another run. Foley ended up advancing to third on the throw and scored during the next at bat as Tuttle kit a sacrifice fly and Foley used his speed after the tag up to score. The Scots would hold the Britons silent in the ninth and come away with a series opening victory, 7-1.

Tyler Johnson pitched a complete game with zero earned runs and nine strikeouts to lead the Scots defensively. Johnson only allowed seven hits in the contest and had zero walks. Three Scots recorded doubles in the game and five recorded an RBI as Carnicom and Tuttle each recorded two.

Alma will now travel to Albion tomorrow, Saturday, April 8th, to complete the season series with the Britons. The first game is slated to start at 1:00 PM with the second to follow shortly after the completion of the first.
