Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Alma College baseball team wrapped up their weekend series with Rose-Hulman on Sunday, March 12th. The Scots had the lead early and held it for most of the game, but a late game rally by the Fighting Engineers propelled them over the Scots.
Alma opened up the scoring in the second inning starting with a walk drawn by Stephen McGlade. A single by Dalton D'Alexander was able to move McGlade into scoring position for Wyatt Nyswaner's at bat. Nyswaner then put the ball into play with a single which was able to send both baserunners forward two bags and score a run. The Fighting Engineers responded in the same inning with a run of their own to tie the game once again.
Leading off the third, Cole Grunwald was able to reach first with a base hit and advanced to second on an error. Avery Carnicom was then intentionally walked and Jacob Cornman ended up drawing a walk to load the bases for Alma. Cameron Bleasdale was able to collect an RBI on a groundout to first but allowed for Grunwald to score, giving Alma the lead again. The Scots were able to add to their lead in the fourth starting with another hit from Nyswaner, this time knocking in a double. Mitch Foley then reached first on an error and Nyswaner advanced to third. Leadoff hitter Kevin Tuttle then hit the second double in three at bats which was enough to send Nyswaner home and score another run for Alma.
Leading off in the fifth inning, Bleasdale put himself into scoring position early with a double and McGlade was able to reach first to put runners on the corners. D'Alexander then scored Bleasdale on an error by the Fighting Engineers McGlade made it to third. The Scots scored on the next play from a sacrifice fly out by Nyswaner and McGlade tagged up 90 feet from home and crossed home plate, giving Alma a 5-1 lead. Rose-Hulman answered with three scores in the bottom of the fifth to bring them within one of Alma. A Fighting Engineer home run in the seventh tied the game at fives, before Rose-Hulman added five additional runs in the eighth giving Alma one last inning to try to comeback. The Scots struggled in the final inning and ended up being defeated by a final score of 10-5.
Chase Balhoff led the pitching staff for the Scots in strikeouts for the game with two. Three Scots recorded a double in the game and four recorded an RBI with Nyswaner tallying two.
