Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Alma College baseball team played their first games in the Midwest on Saturday, March 11th, as they traveled to Rose-Humlan Institute of Technology. The Scots were defeated in both games of the doubleheader, 4-0 and 9-6.

In the first game, Tyler Johnson was named the starting pitcher for the Scots and pitched six complete innings. Johnson recorded eight strikeouts while only allowing two runs. Jacob Wanous came in as the reliever after Johnson and pitched the final two innings of the game. Cameron Bleasdale, Ethan Krafft and Kyler Warren recorded a hit in the game for the Scots as they looked to the second game to split the day.

In the second game, defense was the story early as both teams were held scoreless until the third inning. Alma struck first in the top of the third Dalton Hall and Wyatt Nyswaner both singled to reach base for the Scots. Avery Carnicom continued his season dominance with his eighth home run of the season, after being named to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week. The three-run shot gave Alma the lead heading into the bottom of the third before Rose-Hulman tacked on five runs to regain the lead.

Leading off the fourth, Jacob Cornman hit a solo homerun for his first of the season and brought the Scots within one. The following inning, Nyswaner doubled as the leadoff hitter and advanced to third on a ground out from Kevin Tuttle. Bleasdale then hit a fly out to right field and Nyswaner tagged up on third to score and tie the game for Alma at fives. Following the run, Carnicom was able to single and was followed behind with a Grunwald single, putting runners on first and second. Cornman then stayed patient at the plate and drew a walk to load the bases. Warren was then able to reach first off of an error and Cornicom scored to give Alma their second lead of the game. The Fighting Engineers were able to regian the lead in the bottom of the fifth, and added another run in the sixth while holding the Scots off the board to add a second victory on the day.

The Scots will now look to Sunday to collect a victory before heading back to Michigan. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
