JACKSON, Miss. – The Alma College baseball team traveled south over the weekend to start their spring break trip with games in Jackson, Mississippi. The Scots played their first of four games in Jackson on Sunday, February 26th, where they battled against Millsaps College (MS). The Scots were edged out in late innings by a final score of 6-4.

Scoring took off in the second inning for the Scots starting with a fielder's choice that allowed Kyler Warren to reach first. Warren then advanced to second on a wild pitch with Cole Grunwald up to bat. Grunwald then hit a ball to deep center field which allowed for him to turn second and try to stretch for a triple. Grunwald was successful and made it to third, which then allowed him to score during the next at-bat off a wild pitch.

Millsaps was able to get on the board in the third to bring the score to 2-1, but Alma responded in the fourth. Warren led the inning off drawing a walk before Grunwald reached first on an error and Warren reached second. Padyn Kesselring then laid down a sacrifice bunt advancing the runners to second and third. Nolan Chilcutt then also drew a walk to load the bases for Alma. All runners advanced forward a base on a wild pitch during Kevin Tuttle's at-bat giving the Scots a two-run lead again.

An inning later in the fifth, the Majors added two runs to knot the game at threes. In the sixth, Grunwald was patient at the plate and was walked. Grunwald then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch during the at-bat. Wyatt Nyswaner also drew a walk and then stole second to put two Scots into scoring position. Chilcutt was the third batter of the inning to draw a walk which led to Grunwald scoring due to the wild pitch. Millsaps was held off the board for the next couple innings until the eighth when the Majors were able to add three runs which would lead to the final score, 6-4.

Starting on the mound for the Scots was Tyler Johnson, who recorded eight strikeouts in in seven and one-third innings on the bump. 

Alma will now take the field against Belhaven University on Monday, February 27th. =The game will be played at Millsaps and will begin at 3:00 PM EST.
