Women's Basketball Downed in Low Scoring Affair at Oberlin

Oberlin, OH – Alma College Women's Basketball hit the road on Saturday to take on the Yeowomen of Oberlin College. The Scots fell in a low scoring affair by a final of 59-42.

Both teams struggled to score the ball as they combined for just 8 points in the opening 6 minutes of the contest. Defenses reigned as the opening frame moved on, with steals and turnovers racking up on both sides. Eventually Oberlin was able to string together a short run, and snag a lead after the first frame, 17-6.

The defenses continued to work in the second quarter, with a good number of turnovers and steals by both teams. Both sides continued to have trouble hitting shots, as the teams managed 16 points combined. At halftime, the score was 25-14.

The scoring picked up in the third quarter, with both teams starting to hit their groove shooting the ball. The Scots found an early run in the quarter, stringing together a series of makes to pull the gap down to as low as 4-points at 32-28. There was a long dry spell, as the teams went cold before Oberlin found a run at the very end of the frame to take a 40-29 lead into the fourth.

The offenses continued to find more scoring in the final frame. It was a similar story to the third quarter, with the visitors making a huge push early, and dropping the margin down to 6 points at 46-40. However, Oberlin was able to find shots late to keep Alma at arm's length until the final buzzer.

Taylor Sas (20 Points, 6 Rebounds) Molly Deurloo (9 Points, 5 Rebounds, 2 Steals) and Maddie Robbins (5 Points, 8 Rebounds, 3 Steals) led the way for Alma.

The Scots look to bounce back as they await a home date with Wittenberg on Tuesday.
