Elmhurst, IL – Alma College women's basketball traveled to Elmhurst University to take on the Blue Jays in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday. Alma posted its highest single game point total in 18 years with a 93-74 drubbing of the hosts.
The Scots raced out to an 8-0 advantage, just to have Elmhurst fight back to take a lead at 9-8. The game of runs continued, with the home five taking an 18-16 lead to the first quarter break. The second quarter was more of the same, a game of runs. The only difference was that Alma turned on the jets, stringing together run after run to take back the lead, and run away with it. At halftime, the score sat at 42-30 in favor of Alma.
Out of the break, the Scots continued to score at a rapid pace. Elmhurst was able to do more offensively to score with the Scots, but just couldn't score enough. The Scots earned a +7 in the third, and led by 19 heading into the fourth. The final frame featured a massive push from the Bluejays, a 26-point quarter in fact. This would have given the visitors a scare, if it weren't for Alma registering a 26-point quarter of its own to fend off the home side. In the end, Alma registered 25 or more points in 3 of 4 quarters en route to the win, 93-74.
Brooke LeRoux (20 Points, 10 Rebounds)
Izzy Alston (18 Points, 13 Rebounds) and
Taylor Sas (13 Points, 6 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 2 Steals) led the way for the Scots.
Alma will be back in action on Saturday as they hit the road to Oberlin College.
