University Heights, OH – Alma College Women's Basketball continued play at the Winking Lizard Tip Off Tournament on Saturday. Alma was defeated in the championship game by host John Carroll University 60-48.
The Scots played the home side close in the opening frame. Alma jumped out to a 6-0 lead early, just for JCU to claw back and tie the game at 6-6. The teams traded blows, and locked down defensively, with the first frame ending with the score 13-11 in favor of John Carroll.
The second quarter saw more scoring. The teams opened up the second quarter by combining to make 9 of their first 10 field goal attempts of the period. Neither team was willing to back down, and the teams scored their way to a 20-20 draw, with the halftime score 33-31 in favor of the home team.
The third quarter was when the gap started to grow. JCU put together a handful of small runs, broken up by Scots baskets, and did well to prevent Alma from stringing together any baskets. The 17-8 scoring difference in the third would prove to be the difference maker in the game.
The fourth quarter was much of the same, with the teams trading jabs in a low scoring frame. The Scots managed to close the gap to as low as 8 points, but couldn't get any closer as JCU closed things out for the win.
Taylor Sas (14 Points, 2 Rebounds, 3 Assists)
Maddie Robbins (11 Points, 7 Rebounds, 3-3 from Three) and
Brooke LeRoux (8 Points, 10 Rebounds) led the way for Alma.
The Scots will be back in action next week with a road matchup at Elmhurst.
