Volleyball Earns Non-Conference Split in Ohio

Tiffin, OH – Alma College Volleyball headed down to Ohio to take part in a Saturday non-conference doubleheader on Saturday. The Scots earned a split on the day, losing to Marietta College 3-0, before sweeping host Heidelberg 3-0.
 
Marietta 3, Alma 0 
The Scots opened up with a neutral site matchup against Marietta. The Scots fought hard, but were unable to win a pair of close sets to open the game. MC took the opener at 25-20, before narrowly winning a second set at 25-23. The opposition really turned it up in the third set, winning 25-14 to end the game.
 
Brooke LeRoux grabbed 8 kills, while Reagan Thorr added 7. Thorr also landed 3 aces. Lexi Dykstra added 20 assists, while tying Kolbey Boyd and Thorr with 9 digs apiece. Madison Munley recorded 3 total blocks in the loss.
 
Alma 3, Heidelberg 0
The Scots then turned to play the host team in Heidelberg. The Scots secured a 3-0 sweep, and one they had to fight hard for with 2 sets going beyond 25 points to win. Alma jumped out to a quick advantage, with the Scots leading by 5 after a short burst at 12-7. The Scots held the advantage for most of the set, winning 25-20.
 
The teams then battled to a 24-24 tie in the second, and then battled point for point, with Alma eventually pulling out a back breaking 29-27 win. The third set was much of the same. It took until the third time of asking, after the Scots were up 24-23, and 25-24, and failed to seal the deal. Finally, Alma pushed it over the line, winning 27-25 to take the game.
 
LeRoux knocked down 14 kills, with Sienna Sahr adding 11. Dykstra added 33 assists and 9 digs in the win. Kolbey Boyd dug out 15 attacks, and LeRoux 14.
 
The Scots are back home for their final 2 home games this week. Alma hosts #3 Hope College on Tuesday.
