SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Alma College women's soccer team traveled across state lines into Indiana for a weekend matchup against the Belles of Saint Mary's College. The Scots were defeated by a final score of 3-1 on Saturday, October 21st.
Saint Mary's opened the game with several early shots before the Scots created some offense of their own. Alma found themselves battling throughout the first half but couldn't find the back of the net to break the ice. Saint Mary's finished the half with two shots on net, as Allison Bush made three saves in the half.
The Belles picked up where they left off in the second putting three shots in net in five minutes with Bush saving each one. Shortly after, the Scots saw themselves on offense and created chances of their own. Lily Stephan helped cause a turnover and touched a pass to Jayden Rawlin as Paige Kohler created space on the left side and found a pass that she was able to sneak by the goalkeeper on the left side for the first goal of the game. Just five minutes later, the Belles scored a goal of their own to tie the game with just over 25 minutes left to play. Alma created some shots but nothing on net before the Belles scored their second goal of the game with just under 15 minutes remaining in the game. Again, the Scots would fire the ball towards the net but nothing that was high danger as the Belles tacked on one final goal with just over four minutes remaining to take the win over the Scots 3-1.
Stephan and Paige Moore led the Scots in the shots on goal category, both having two for the game. Stephan led Alma in total shots with five in the contest as Bush made seven total saves in the game.
Alma will now close out the regular season with a matchup against Adrian College on Wednesday, October 24th. The Scots will travel to Docking Stadium for a 7:00 PM kickoff under the lights.
