Box Score Alma, MI – Alma Women's Volleyball took to the court on Tuesday against Olivet College. It was both the home opener and MIAA conference play opener for the hosts. Alma was dropped by the Comets in straight sets.
The Comets got off to a hot start offensively, outkilling the Scots 16-9 in the first set and taking it by a score of 25-20. Olivet rode a hot start in the second set and forced Alma to take both of its timeouts early. The Scots pushed hard to close the gap, but ran out of time, falling 25-20 in the second set as well. The third and final set was a battle, with both teams leading at different points. The Scots made a big lunge at the end, holding the lead at 24-22, but couldn't close the door as Olivet would rattle off 4 straight points to close out the home squad 26-24.
Callie Smith led the Scots offense with 6 kills on 8 attacks. She also served up 4 aces for a team high 10 points. McKenzie Smith also added 5 kills. Megan Greenup tallied 12 assists, and 11 more were added by Ashley Miller.
Defensively, Madison Bott led the way with 10 digs, and Natalie DelaColina recorded 8 digs as well. Ashlyn Michalski also added a solo block.
Alma drops to 2-8 overall, and is off to an 0-1 start in MIAA play. The Scots will next be in action on Saturday at Adrian.
