Box Score 2 Alliance, OH – The Alma Volleyball team opened their season on Friday, September 2 against a pair of tough opponents at the Mount Union Invitational.
Otterbein 3, Alma 0
Alma opened their 2022 season with a game against Otterbein. The Cardinals are coming off a season where they advanced all the way to the Sweet 16, and they picked up right where they left off. The first set was all Otterbein. The Cardinals capitalized on several defensive errors by the Scots and took the set handily. In sets 2 and 3, the Scots found traction and showed improvement. They were nearly point for point with Otterbein throughout the 2nd and 3rd sets. In the end Otterbein would end up taking the game by a score of 3-0, but the Scots found several positives to build off moving forward.
Madison Greenup tossed 12 assists, and Kolbey Boyd recorded 12 digs in the loss.
Mount Union 3, Alma 0
The Scots played host Mount Union in their second game of the evening. The Raiders are coming off a 21-7 season in 2021 and defeated Wooster 3-0 earlier in the day. The Scots got stronger with each set as the game went on, but ultimately fell to the hosting team.
Madison Neu led Alma offensively with 7 kills on the night, Greenup tallied 13 assists, and a trio of Scots notched 2 aces in the contest. Defensively Ashley Miller, and Boyd led Alma with 10 digs.
Alma will look to right the ship tomorrow against Carnegie Mellon and Wooster.
