OLIVET, Mich. – The Alma College baseball team traveled to Olivet College on Sunday, May 8, to close out the regular season against the Comets. Alma dropped the final game by a final score of 5-4.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings of play. Alma broke the ice in the third inning with a solo homerun by Ethan Krafft (Canton, Mich.). Olivet came back in the fourth inning and tied the game, 1-1. Alma quickly responded in the fifth inning starting with a single by Krafft through the left side. Dalton D'Alexander (Canton, Mich.) reached first on a fielder's choice and Krafft was safe at second on a throwing error. Joshua Robinson (Dewitt, Mich.) singled to right center field and both runners scored giving Alma a 3-1 lead. Robinson then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Avery Carnicom (Woodhaven, Mich.) added another RBI with a single down the left field line and Robinson used his speed to score and take a 4-1 lead.
Olivet added a run in the fifth to tighten Alma's lead and make the score 4-2. Olivet then rallied in the bottom of the ninth and scored three-runs for a walk-off win over the Scots to close out the season. Jacob Wanous (Midland, Mich.) and Trevor Wregglesworth (Onaway, Mich.) added a total of five strikeouts combined.
Alma closes out the season with a 11-28 record overall and 8-13 in MIAA conference play. The Scots tallied 25 homeruns total and scored 213 total runs over the course of the season. Several Scots broke records this season and look to build upon that moving forward.
