Box Score
ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College baseball team returned to Klenk Park for an afternoon matchup against the Adrian Bulldogs on Friday, April 29. The Scots came out victorious over the Bulldogs by a final score of 7-3.
Both teams were held off the scoreboard for the first two innings as hits were hard to come by. Alma would break the ice in the bottom of the third inning starting with Kevin Tuttle (Woodhaven, Mich.) singling to right field and Stephen McGlade (Pinckney, Mich.) drawing a walk. Joshua Robinson (Dewitt, Mich.) then doubled to center and scored Tuttle. Following behind, Avery Carnicom (Woodhaven, Mich.) collected a base hit to right field and both runners scored to take a 3-0 lead. Cooper Kauffold (Sebewaing, Mich.) took a pitch to the back and Ian Hart (Brighton, Mich.) singled to load the bases for the Scots. All runners would advance forward a base on a wild pitch, ultimately scoring Carnicom. Mac Hawley (Brooklyn, Mich.) then settled in and hit a sacrifice fly to center field allowing Kauffold to tag up and score another run for the Scots. Alma ended the third inning with a 5-0 lead.
The following inning, Dalton D'Alexander (Canton, Mich.) reached first on an error and would advance to second on a wild pitch during an at-bat. Stephen McGlade took a ball to the right center wall and tried using his speed but was thrown out at third, as he still scored D'Alexander. Tyler Johnson (Lexington, Mich.) pitched seven innings for Alma only allowing five hits and zero runs. Johnson only had one walk on the day and recorded nine strikeouts on the Bulldogs.
In the bottom of the seventh, Hart continued his strong showing by adding a double to left center. Hawley then reached first on an error to put runners on the corners. Nolan Chillcut (Woodhaven, Mich.) would then hit a slow roller between the pitcher and third base and score Hart before getting thrown out at first. Adrian would add three runs in the top of the eighth and would strand a runner on base in the ninth but did not have enough to spoil the Scots return to Klenk Park.
The Scots will finish the season series with the Bulldogs on Saturday, April 30, at Nicolay Field. The doubleheader games will start at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
