Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College baseball team hosted the Trine Thunder on Saturday, April 16, for a doubleheader at Klenk Park. The Scots won both games, 9-6 and 10-6.

In the first inning, Alma held Trine off the board and leadoff batter Kevin Tuttle (Woodhaven, Mich.) singled to open the hitting for Alma. Cooper Kauffold (Sebewaing, Mich.) followed behind with a double to right field, but Tuttle was thrown out at home. Avery Carnicom (Woodhaven, Mich.) also doubled allowing for Kauffold to score. Jacob Cornman (Birch Run, Mich.) followed the trend and doubled to left center which sent Carnicom across home plate. Ian Hart (Brighton, Mich.) kept the hitting streak alive with a single to right field and Cornman would score giving the Scots a 3-0 lead in the first. Trine tied the game in the second inning with three of their own runs.

In the bottom of the third, Kauffold would lead off with a double and would advance to third on a ground out. Cornman sent Kauffold home with a single to second base, giving Alma the lead again. The Thunder would tie the game in the sixth. In the seveth, Tuttle has hit by a pitch and Kauffold reached first on an error and then advanced to second to put both runners in scoring position. Robinson then drew an intentional walk which allowed for Carnicom to hit a sacrifice fly out to left field and Tuttle to score from third. The bases would again be loaded after Hart would be walked. Taha Ebrahim (Ann Arbor, Mich.) singled to right field and both Kauffold and Robinson would score. Ebrahim then stole second which allowed for Hart to steal home and gave the Scots an 8-4 lead. Trine would answer with two runs in the eighth, but it would prove to not be enough as the Scots would add an additional run in the bottom of the eighth making the score 9-6, ultimately the final score of game one.

Alma would start the scoring in the second game with a Kauffold double in the bottom of the first sending Tuttle across home plate. Trine answered with two runs to take the lead in the second. In the bottom of the third Kauffold singled to get on base for the Scots, the Robinson took advantage of the situation and unleashed a ball over the outfield wall for a two-run homerun, giving Alma the lead again. Again, trine would respond with two runs in the fourth inning to regain the lead, proving for a back-and-forth battle between the two teams.

In the fifth inning, Robinson doubled to left center and Carnicom reached first on an error. Cornman then singled to left field and Robinson would use his speed to cross home. In the bottom of the next inning, with runners on first and second, Tuttle singled sending one run home and the other runner to second. Kauffold then also singled and sent the run on second home while Tuttle advanced the third. Robinson would sacrifice fly out to center field and Tuttle would tag up to score, maikeg the Alma lead 7-5. In the seventh, Hart singled to right field and Wyatt Nyswaner (Clio, Mich.) singled but advanced to second on the throw which allowed for Hart to score and make the score 8-5. The eighth inning provided some more Alma offense starting with a Tuttle single to shortstop and then stealing second base. Robinson added to his day with a triple to right center sending Tuttle across home. Carnicom then hit a sacrifice fly out to right field, but Robinson would tag up and score giving Alma a 10-5 lead. Trien added a run in the ninth, but Alma stood tall defensively and completed the series sweep over the Thunder.

Robinson was a single away from hitting the cycle in the second game and the pitching staff stood tall collecting four strikeouts and only two walks.

The Scots will now take on Kalamazoo College on Friday, April 22, at Klenk Park in Alma. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
