ADA, Ohio – The Alma College baseball team traveled to the neighboring state of Ohio to take on the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University. Alma fell to ONU by a final score of 20-8.
Alma started the game with the lead off hitter Kevin Tuttle drawing a walk. In the two slot, Joshua Robinson doubled to left field and Tuttle would score from first. Several batters later, Jacob Cornman took a ball over the left field wall for a two-run homerun to put the Scots up 3-0. Ohio Northern would score four runs in the bottom of the first and six runs in the bottom of the second to take a 10-3 lead.
Alma looked to rebuttal in the fourth inning after two Scots were hit by pitches. Ethan Krafft knocked one run in when he reached first on an error and Mac Hawley crossed home plate. ONU added two runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to increase the lead. In the top of the sixth, Hawley drew a walk to get on base for Alma. The following batter, Nolan Chillcut, doubled to left field and Hawley would score from first. Later in the inning, Tuttle reached first on an error which allowed for Chillcut to score and cut into ONU's lead. In the seventh inning, Hawley would score on a wild pitch and cut the deficit to 19-7. In the ninth, Chillcut reached first on an error and Stephen McGlade scored a run for the Scots, but it would prove to be not enough as Alma would eventually fall to the Polar Bears.
