Multiple Scots homer, but fall to Grizzlies

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Alma College baseball team finished the weekend series against Franklin College. The Scots fell to the Grizzlies in both games on March 13, 11-9 and 12-2. 

After a day off, the Scots would be looking for revenge against the Grizzlies. Alma would get the scoring started early in the first with a two-run homerun over the right field wall by Joshua Robinson. Franklin College would cut the Scots lead in half in the bottom of the inning.  

Leading off the second inning for Alma, Padyn Kesslring doubled to right field and would advance to third on a wild pitch. Ethan Krafft tripled to right center sending Kesselring home. Krafft would end up scoring on Kevin Tuttle ground out, increasing the Scots lead to 4-1. The Grizzlies would add two runs, cutting the Scots lead to 4-3. 

With runners in scoring positions, Kesselring would hit a sacrifice fly to center field, Nolan Chillcut advanced to third and Hawley crossed home. The following batter, Krafft would reach first on a throwing error and Chillcut would score from third. Several batters later, Tuttle reached first on a fielder's choice, Krafft scored, and the Scots would end the inning leading 7-3.  

In the top of the fourth inning, Robinson reached first on a fielding error and advanced to second during the play. In the following at bat, Avery Carnicom would connect with a pitch and send it over the center field wall, extending the Scots lead to 9-3. The Grizzlies would score one run in the bottom of the fourth to cut into the Scots lead. In the seventh and eighth inning, Franklin College tallied seven more runs to take an 11-9 lead over Alma. The Scots would not score in the ninth, and Alma would drop the first game of the day.  

In the last game of the series, Franklin College would gain an early two run lead. In the top of the second, Jacob Cornman would hit a solo homerun over the center field wall and cut the lead in half. Franklin would respond with a run in the bottom of the inning and would score at least one run in the each of the first five innings. Franklin would add three more runs in the bottom of the seventh and ultimately win the game. 

The Scots will take several days off before they travel to Cleary University on Tuesday, March 15. First pitch will be at 3:00 p.m. at Lake Trust Stadium in Howell, Michigan.
