Robinson homers again but Scots drop both games

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Alma College baseball team traveled to Indiana this weekend to take on the Franklin College Grizzlies in a two-day doubleheader series. The Scots dropped both games on Friday, March 11, by the final scores of 6-2 and 15-7. 

For the first game of the doubleheader Alma would lead off and bat first. Mac Hawley Started the game leading off with a single up the middle to center field. Hawley would advance to second on a sacrifice hit by Kevin Tuttle. Joshua Robinson stayed patient and was walked sending Avery Carnicom to the plate. Carnicom would single to center field allowing Robinson to get into scoring position on second and Hawley would make it home safely from third. The Scots ended the top of the first with a 1-0 lead.  

Tyler Johnson would keep the Grizzlies hitless until the third inning. Franklin College would score two runs in the bottom of the third to regain the lead from the Scots. The Scoring would pick back up for the Scots in the top of the fifth inning. Robinson up to bat would connect with a pitch and would triple to get into scoring position. Carnicom, next up to bat singled through the left side and Robinson would cross home and take the lead for the Scots, 2-1. Johnson again would keep the Grizzlies hitless until the seventh inning. In the seventh, Franklin would add five runs to their total and overtake the lead 6-2, ultimately the final score of game one. 

After a short break, the teams would battle the frigid conditions and compete in the second game of the doubleheader. Alma would kick off the scoring in the second inning. Jacob Cornman doubled done the left field line to get on base for the Scots. Nolan Chillcut batting next would single to left field and Cornman advanced to third. Taha Ebrahim would follow suit and single into center field allowing the runners to advance and Cornman to score and the Scots taking a 1-0 lead.  

Frnaklin responded with six of their own runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead. In the fouth, Alma would cut into the Grizzlies lead from a single by Padyn Kesselring that allowed Chillcut to score from third. Franklin would respond in the bottom of the inning with three more runs, making their lead 9-2. In the fifth, again the Scots would score another run from a Carnicom double sending Robinson home. Franklin also scored a run in the fifth and Alma would still trail by seven.  

In the sixith, Ebrahim would draw a walk and take first. In the next at bat, Kesselring tripled to right center firld and Ebrahim would score from first. Two batters later, Kesselring would cross home on a wild pitch, making the score 10-5. Franklin would add two more runs in the sixth. The Scots would score an additional run in the seventh from a walk by Kesselring, but still trailed 12-6.  

In the eighth, Joshua Robinson added another homerun to his season total as he knocked one over the right center fence. Franklin would score three runs in the eighth and would take both games from the Scots on day one. 

The Scots will be back in action on Sunday, March 13, when they finish the series against Franklin College. The first game of the double header will start at 12:00 p.m. and the second game will start at 2:30 p.m.
