ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Alma College men's tennis team concluded its spring break travel with a match against Principia College on Monday, Feb. 21. The Scots ultimately fell to the Panthers, 7-2, despite two tough comeback wins by four-singles
Thomas Manko and five-singles
Brendan Murdie.
Murdie played an aggressive back-and-forth match to win, 6-4, 6-4. However, the court to watch was Manko's, after he took an early lead by winning his first set 6-4. Then the pressure was on as he lost a grueling second set, 2-6. Manko then battled hard to win the super tiebreaker, 16-14. His overall final score was 6-4, 2-6, 16-14.
"I'm very happy with how the team played today. Principia is one of the best teams in our region, so I challenged the men to prove to themselves that they can hang with a team of this caliber. I thought we did that very well, and I'm beyond proud of the effort as a whole group," head coach Jared Guy said.
The Scots' next match will take place on March 5 at the Michigan Athletic Club in East Lansing, Michigan, against St. Francis.
