Box Score Alma, MI – Alma Volleyball hosted Kalamazoo in MIAA play on Monday. The Scots came up just short of beating the Hornets, falling in 5 sets.
Kalamazoo won the opening set by a score of 25-22, putting the Scots in an early hole. Alma responded by narrowly grabbing the second set 25-23 on the back of 13 kills. The visitors grabbed the third set by a 6-point margin, capitalizing on 12 hitting errors by the Scots. Alma's offense hit its stride in the fourth set and the Scots clapped back in a major way. They hit a blistering .318 in the fourth and took the set 25-11. The Scots battled hard in the final frame, notching 10 kills, but ultimately fell just short, dropping the set 16-14.
Callie Smith had yet another fantastic outing offensively, putting up 14 kills, 1 solo block, and 2 assisted blocks, for a game high total of 16 points on the night. Brooke Leroux, Ashlyn Michalski, and Reagan Thorr all followed up with 10.5, 9, and 8.5 points respectively.
Kolbey Boyd picked up 25 digs for the Scots, adding in an ace, and Megan Greenup tallied 32 assists.
The Scots will be back in action on Wednesday as they continue MIAA play at Calvin.
