Box Score Oberlin, OH – Women's Volleyball went away from home for their season finale at Oberlin on Friday. Alma got revenge following a loss to Oberlin earlier this season, winning 3-2.
The Scots jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, taking the opening sets 25-22, and 25-20. Oberlin fought back to take the third and fourth by scores of 25-18, and 28-26. It all came down to a fifth set shootout. The Scots jumped out to a 4-1 lead, only for Oberlin to fight and tie the set at 6-6. The teams would trade points before Alma found themselves trailing 12-9 after an Oberlin kill put the Scots behind by 3. It was the last point that the home side would score. Alma rattled off 5 straight to put Oberlin's backs against the wall at 14-12, forcing a timeout by the hosts. The ensuing serve was returned too close to the net, and Callie Smith was there to capitalize, slamming the free ball down to end the game.
The final point from Smith was her 15th kill of the game, which led Alma. Add that to 2 aces, 2 solo blocks, and 3 assisted blocks, and you have a 20.5 point night for the sophomore. Ashlyn Michalski tallied 8 kills, as well as Madison Neu. Reagan Thorr added 7 of Alma's 51 kills in the contest. Megan Greenup tossed 27 assists, and landed 4 aces. She was joined by Lexi Dykstra who totaled 3 aces in the game.
Defensively, Kolbry Boyd totaled 18 digs to lead the team, with Dykstra adding in 10, and Ashley Miller grabbing 9. Michalski totaled 7 blocks, with Callie Smith adding 5, and McKenzie Smith also with 5.
Alma closes out their season on a high note winning 4 of their last 5 games. The Scots finish with an 8-17 record overall, and a 1-7 mark in MIAA play.
