Box Score 2 Milwaukee, WI – Alma Volleyball continued non-conference action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Mount Mary and Olivet. Alma was victorious in both games.
ALMA 3, MOUNT MARY 0
Alma's first game of the day was against the hosting team Mount Mary. The Scots took the first set in dominant fashion 25-15. The next 2 sets were much closer, with Alma coming out with 25-23, and 25-22 wins to take the match.
Offensively, Alma was led by Callie Smith and Madison Neu, who each tallied 8 kills in the match. McKenzie Smith and Brooke Leroux each added 5 as well. Megan Greenup tallied 15 assists in the win. The Scots had a good game from the service line, totaling 11 aces. Greenup totaled 4 aces, with M. Smith landing 4 as well.
Defensively, Kolbey Boyd led the Scots with 9 digs. Alma also totaled 6 digs to Mount Mary's 0. Callie Smith was the top blocker for Alma with a solo block as well as 4 assisted blocks.
ALMA 3, OLIVET 1
Alma's second game of the day was against MIAA opponent Olivet. This game didn't count for conference play, and the Scots were victorious in the opening set. 25-23, also taking the second set 25-15. Olivet fought back to take the third 25-23, and looked in position to send the game to a fifth. Alma trailed 16-5 and it looked certain that Comets would take the set. However, the Scots had other ideas. Alma rattled off 5 straight points to force an Olivet timeout at 16-10. The Scots kept chipping away scoring points in bunches at a time. FInally, Alma tied the game at 21-21, and then took the lead. Olivet fought hard to take a 23-22 lead, but Alma used a Comet attack error to tie the game, and Madison Neu slammed home 2 kills to end an epic 20-7 run, take the set 25-23, and seal the game.
The offense was led by Brooke Leroux who continued an outstanding weekend with a 13 kill effort. Callie Smith added 7 kills to her season total as well. Megan Greenup tossed 16 assists to supplement the 18 that were recorded by Ashley Miller.
Defensively, it was Lexi Dykstra and Kolbey Boyd who each came up with 17 digs. The Scots tallied 11 blocks, with Callie Smith leading the way with a solo block and 5 assisted blocks.
Alma heads into their MIAA finale against Trine on a 3-game win streak this week.
