Grand Rapids, MI - Alma Volleyball was away on Friday to take on Millikin University at the Midwest Classic at Calvin University. The Scots dropped the contest 3-0.

The first set of the game was a back and forth affair. Alma jumped out to a quick lead, only to have Millikin go on a run and take the lead back. After some back and forth, the Big Blue pulled away with a big run to take the set 25-15. Alma fought back hard in the 2nd set. It was point for point as the teams slowly worked their way into the 20s. Ultimately, the Big Blue grabbed the second set as well, outlasting Alma 26-24. The third set looked like Millikin might pull away early, but Alma came out of a timeout and went on a run to pull the gap back down to 15-14, forcing a Millikin timeout. Despite a big push from the Scots, Millikin pulled away to take the third and final set.

Callie Smith led Alma offensively with 7 kills and and ace for a team high 8 points. McKenzie Smith and Ashlyn Michalski both addd 6 points, Smith with 5 kills and an ace, and Michalski with 5 kills and 2 assisted blocks. Lexi Dykstra also landed 2 aces. Megan Greenup tossed 15 assists to add to her season total. Defensivley, Kolbey Boyd put up 14 digs, and was a key piece in holding a solid Millikin front to 0 blocks in the game. The Scots also had 4 blocks, all assisted, with 5 different players getting in on the action.

Alma will be back in action tomorrow at Calvin against North Park University and North Central College.
