SEGUIN, Texas. – This past week the men's basketball team traveled south to the Lone Star state to battle Texas Lutheran University and take part in the Leslie Robinson Christmas Classic against Trinity University (TX). The Scots started the trip with a 71-59 loss to Texas Lutheran University.
The Scots came out with an early lead over Bulldogs as the teams proved to be an equal matchup. After leading early throughout the game, Alma would stretch their lead to 18-13 with nine minutes left in the first half. The Bulldogs would fight back and shrink the Scots lead, but Alma would ultimately hold a one-point lead going into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, both teams met right where they had left off as the lead would change five times over the first ten minutes of the second half. Both teams would only lead by one-possession during the lead changes. The Bulldogs would take the lead with 10:49 remaining in the game and hold onto it until the final buzzer.
Leading the way for the Scots was Isaiah Williamson with 16 points. Cole Kleiver finished right behind with 15 points also. Brandon rake collected eight rebounds and three assists to lead the Scots in those respective categories. Alma would outrebound the Bulldogs 40-36.
In the final game of the Texas trip, the Scots would find themselves battling Trinity University, a team that is receiving votes to be ranked nationally in the top 25. Alma would round out the trip with a 103-64 loss to the Tigers.
Alma and Trinity would exchange the lead early throughout the contest with neither team taking more than a two-possession lead in the first several minutes. Alma would then fall behind to the Tigers after losing the lead and battle back throughout the rest of the opening half. Trinity would take a 54-31 lead into halftime. The Tigers then extended their lead coming out of halftime and pushed the game farther away from the Scots.
Totals from the second game include Isaiah Williamson leading the way with 20 points and nine rebounds of his own. Nate Deyman finished with behind with 12 points. Landen Moore-Pierce led the Scots with four assists.
The Scots are back in action on December 29th, when they face off against Concordia University (MI) at 7:30p.m. in the Cardinal Fieldhouse.
