Box Score ALMA, Mich. - The Alma College volleyball team loss to Trine University on Friday in five sets (25-21, 28-30, 21-25, 25-19, 15-11). This was the second time in three days that Alma went the distance with an opponent.
Sara Majerle had a team-high 17 kills, 18 digs and three service aces. Haley Novak and Megan Greenup both tallied 22 assists. Bailey Cantrell had a game-high 30 digs. Rachael Parrett posted 13 kills while Ashlyn Michalski had 10 kills and three total blocks.
Trine took the opening set after gaining a small lead and holding it the rest of the way. The Scots responded by taking an early 11-5 advantage in the second set. A 4-0 run later pushed the lead up to eight. However, the Thunder came roaring back to tie the set at 24-all. Both teams had chances to win the set and Trine held a 28-27 lead with a chance to go up 2-0. A Majerle kill and back-to-back Parrett kills gave Alma the highly entertaining set by a score of 30-28.
Alma kept the momentum heading in the third set as it stayed in front for most of the way. The Scots built a 22-16 advantage and ended up winning the set to take a 2-1 lead.
The Thunder were able to take control of the fourth set late to push the match to a deciding fifth set. A 5-0 run by Trine put the Thunder in front, 11-8. The Scots were able to answer with a few points of their own but ultimately it was not enough tonight.
The Scots will host Kalamazoo College on Tuesday, April 13th at 7 p.m. for their final home game of the regular season.
