Box Score 2 ALMA, Mich. - The Alma College baseball team was swept in a doubleheader Sunday against nationally-ranked Adrian College. The Bulldogs won the first game, 7-5, and then won the second game, 17-2. The Scots drop to 11-15 overall and 6-8 in conference play.
The Scots scored all of their runs of the first game in the third inning. The first six batters of the frame all reached base with Joshua Robinson knocking in the first run, Zach Schirmer plating two runs, Macguire Hawley bringing home a run, and then Cooper Kauffold bringing home the final run. The big inning gave the Scots a 5-4 lead.
The Bulldogs responded with two runs in the sixth to take back the lead and added an insurance run it the top of the seventh. Alma was not able to rally in the bottom half of the inning and took their second two-run loss to Adrian of the series.
Schirmer and Robinson each had two hits in the game. Ty Sobczak made his first career start on the mound and struck out three batters.
In game two, Avery Carnicom drove in the first run for the Scots while Schirmer plated the other run for Alma.
Carnicom and Kevin Tuttle each had two hits in the game. Brendan McManus pitched a scoreless inning out the bullpen.
Alma will play Kalamazoo College in a four game series starting on Friday, April 30th. The Scots host the Hornets on Friday with the first game scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
