Alma, Mich.- The Alma College baseball team earned a home doubleheader split at Klenk Park on Saturday (Apr. 17) against Hope College. The Scots won game one 10-4, while the Flying Dutchmen won the second game 17-6. Alma split the overall series this weekend with Hope, and moves to 11-11 overall and 6-4 in the MIAA.

Alma got going right away in the bottom of the first in game one. Joshua Robinson would single down the right field line and score Kevin Tuttle. Later in the inning Zach Schirmer would hit a sacrifice fly and bring in Avery Carnicom to make it 2-0 Scots after one. After Hope got a run in the top of the third, Macguire Hawley would double, bringing in Robinson and Schirmer. Later in the inning, Cooper Kauffold would single to right field and score Alex Dwan and Hawley. The next inning with the bases loaded, Kauffold would be hit by the pitch and Schirmer would score, making it 7-1 Scots. Hope would hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth, but Alma would respond once again. Tuttle would drive in Jaret Koin with a double to right center, and Schirmer would hit another sac fly to bring in Tuttle later in the inning. Tuttle would earn another RBI in the top of the sixth, scoring Noah Hamilton and bringing in the Scots tenth and final run of the game.

Jayden Drake got the win for Alma, going 6.1 innings and striking out four. Cam Jones would come in and get the final two outs of the game for the Scots. Kauffold led the Scots with three RBIs, while Koin and Tuttle both had a stolen base.

Game two saw Hope use a 10 run top of the fifth inning to earn the victory. The Scots produced runs thanks to Stephen McGlade. The freshman would drive in Jacob Cornman with a triple. Later in the bottom of the second, McGlade would score on an RBI groundout by Nolan Chillcutt, tying the game at two. After that it was all Hope. The Scots would score four in the bottom of the seventh, starting with McGlade's two run single that scored Hawley and Carnicom. Cornman would score on a wild pitch later in the inning, while McGlade would score on a balk.

Chase Balhoff got the start for the Scots and would end up with the loss after going 3.2 innings and striking out four. Tuttle would have another stolen base while McGlade led the Scots with three RBIs.

Alma will now prepare to face conference leading Adrian College in a four game series next weekend. The Scots will be at Adrian for a doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 24) beginning at 1:00 p.m. and will be back at Klenk Park on Sunday (Apr. 25) at 1:00 p.m.
