Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – The Alma College volleyball team went to five sets for a third-straight match on Friday. The Scots came out victorious this time over the Adrian College Bulldogs to close out the regular season.
Alma finishes its season at 3-5 overall and 3-4 in conference. The Bulldogs drop to 5-11 overall and 2-5 in conference.
The Scots dropped the opening set by five points but came back fighting in the second. A 5-0 surge made it 14-8 Alma. From there, the Scots cruised their way to a set victory to make it 1-all.
The third set was a tight one but Alma was able to hold its lead all the way through and take the set to go up 2-1. Adrian responded by winning the fourth set to force a deciding fifth set.
Alma found itself in a 7-4 hole but dug deep with four-straight points to take a 8-7 lead. After Adrian tied at 8-all, the Scots went on a six-point run that included two service aces from Sara Majerle to put them one point away from the match win. Haley Novak then set McKenize Smith up for the match-winning kill to end the game and give the Scots the victory.
Majerle had an incredible night with a career-high 29 kills, 22 digs, and five service aces. Novak posted a season-high 45 assists as well as 14 digs. Bailey Cantrell added 29 digs. Smith tallied nine kills in the contest.
Alma now prepares for the MIAA postseason tournament. The first round is scheduled for Tuesday, April 20th. Time and location are to be determined.
