Box Score ALMA, Mich. - The Alma College volleyball team defeated Kalamazoo College in straight-sets (25-22, 29-27, 25-21) on Tuesday at Art Smith Arena. The Scots are now 2-5 overall and 2-4 in conference. Kalamazoo finishes its regular season with a 2-5 record. Before the game, seniors Bailey Cantrell and Haley Novak were honored.
The Scots got right to work as they took an early 12-6 lead in the first set. The Hornets would fight to make it a one-point game but Alma kept its edge. The Scots won four of the last five points of the set to claim victory with Sara Majerle earning the set-winning kill.
The second set featured both teams taking leads but not going very far with them. Kalamazoo went on a three-point swing that put them in front, 25-24, with a chance to take the set. Majerle earned a kill to keep Alma alive in the set. The score would reach 27-all until back-to-back kills from Majerle put the set to rest and give Alma a 2-0 lead.
Kalamazoo took an early lead and pushed it to as high as five at 16-11. Alma responded with a 11-3 run to flip the script and make it 22-19 in favor of the Scots. McKenzie Smith had some big kills during the run while McKenzie Hammontree posted a pair of service aces. The Scots ran with the momentum and finished off the set to win the match.
Majerle had a season-high 21 kills while also tallying 17 digs. Novak earned 32 assists, six digs, and five kills. Cantrell earned 15 digs while Kolbey Boyd had 13 digs. Rachel Parrett added seven kills.
The Scots will finish out the regular season at Adrian College on Friday, April 16th.
