Westfield, IN- The Alma College baseball team split games against Olivet and Hope College on Saturday (Mar. 20) at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.  Both games did not count in the MIAA standings. 

In game one against Hope College, the Scots got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Joshua Robinson reached first on a fielding error by the Flying Dutchmen, scoring Kevin Tuttle and putting the Scots ahead 1-0. Hope would respond with a big inning in the fourth, scoring seven runs. Alma would score two more runs, but it would not be enough. The Dutchmen would add four more in the sixth and seventh innings and earn the 11-3 victory. Dylan Dzendzel got the start for Alma and went four innings before departing. The left handed senior would be credited with the loss. 

Game two against the Olivet College Comets was much closer. After Olivet scored two runs in the top of the first, Alma would respond with three of their own. Avery Carnicom would hit a sacrifice fly that would score Jaret Koin for the Scots first run. The next run came when Robinson reached on an error that scored Tuttle again. Robinson would then come home after an Alex Dwan single, making it 3-2 Scots after the first inning. In the bottom of the third inning, Zach Schirmer would increase Alma's lead with a triple, scoring Robinson and making it 4-2. The Comets would tie it in the top of the fourth, before Alma would retake the lead in the fifth inning, and adding another run in the sixth. After the Comets once again tied the game in the top of the ninth, the Scots would walk it off in the bottom half. Schirmer would single home Robinson and Alma would come away with the 8-7 victory.

The Scots will be back in action on Friday (Mar. 26) for their home opener at Klenk Park. The doubleheader against Calvin University will begin at 2:00 p.m.
