Kleiver Reaches 1,000 Career Points as Men's Basketball fall to Albion

Box Score

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College men's basketball team dropped one to Albion College on Tuesday at Art Smith Arena, 86-73, in the MIAA opener for both teams. The Scots (2-5, 0-1 MIAA) were led by junior Cole Kleiver with 21 points who surpassed 1,000 career points as Scot tonight. The Britons moved to 4-2 and 1-0 in conference.

Kleiver became the 16th player in program history to join the 1,000-point club when he made a layup in the second half. The Williamston native has amassed 1,006 points in 59 games at Alma.

The Scots got into an early hole in first half due to some offensive struggles but turned it around in the second half where they scored 49 points and shot over 57 percent from the floor. Alma looked to make a comeback but could not overcome the large deficit.

Alma received some solid performances off the bench with Brandon Whiteside scoring 15 points in only his second game as a Scot. Alex King netted a career-high 10 points while grabbing a team-high four rebounds. Casey Constant posted seven points by going a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor.

The Scots now prepare to make the trip to Indiana to take on Trine University on Thursday (Feb. 9). Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
