Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's tennis team earned a victory over Concordia University Ann Arbor on Saturday (Sept. 14) by a final score of 7-2. The Scots earned victories in four singles matches and won all three doubles contests.
Winners for the Scots included junior Brandon Ralston (Cadillac, Mich. Cadillac). Ralston defeated his opponent in the first set 6-0, before falling in the second 7-6. In the tiebreaking third set, Ralston was able to earn the hard-fought victory 10-8. Also earning a victory was senior Brett Reuter (Armada, Mich. Armada), who defeated his opponent in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Brendan Murdie (Novi, Mich. Walled Lake Western) dropped his first set 7-6 before coming back and defeating his Cardinal opponent 6-0 and 10-1. The final singles victory of the day came from senior David Suidgeest (St. Johns, Mich. / St. Johns), who won his match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
The Scots won all three doubles matches as well. Ralston and Reuter paired up and won 8-5. Murdie teamed up with senior Jadon House (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton), and the pair came away victorious 8-7. Freshman Merrick Bay joined Suidgeest and the pair took their match 8-0.
The Scots will be back in action next weekend at Cornerstone University on Satuday (Sept. 21). The match is set to begin at 10:00 am from Grand Rapids, Mich.
