Scots Fall In Final Spring Break Game

Box Score

Kissimmee, Fla. – The Alma College baseball team fell to Cabrini University (OH), 8-1, in the final scheduled game of the Scots Spring Break Florida Trip. The Scots only managed to get four hits in the game as they head back to Michigan with a 3-3 overall record.

How It Happened

  • Junior Dylan Dzendzel (Royal Oak, Mich. / Royal Oak) took the bump for the second time this week and looked strong to start working out of a bases loaded and no outs situation by forcing back-to-back pop outs and getting the final batter of the frame to go down swinging. The Crusaders were able to break though in the fourth with six runs to take a commanding lead.
  • The Scots responded with a great opportunity to score with senior Jordan Anstandig (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) leading off with a single. After junior Jaret Koin (Stering, Mich. / Standish-Sterling) was hit by a pitch and sophomore Alex Dwan (Saginaw, Mich. / Nouvel Catholic Central) took a walk the Scots had bases loaded with two outs for junior Zach Schirmer (Bay City, Mich. / Bay City Western). But the shortstop hit one right to the center fielder to end the inning.
  • In the fifth, junior Matt Scanzano (Oakville, Ont. / De La Salle College Oaklands) hit a nice bunt to the third basemen. Scanzano reached first safely and was able to advance to second on a throwing error. After moving to third on a passed ball, Scanzano came home on a single by junior Pete Carravallah (Canton, Mich. Plymouth).
  • The next best chance to score for the Scots would not come until the eighth with runners on second and third and two outs for Dwan. The catcher chopped one to the shorthstop and was just thrown out thanks to a great scoop by the Cabrini first basemen. Alma would go down in order in the ninth

Notables

  • Freshman Ian Hart (Brighton, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) had the other hit in the game for the Scots. The infielder has two hits through his first three career at-bats.
  • Senior Alex Archambeault (Lansing, Mich. / Waverly) pitched two shutout innings for the Scots out the bullpen. He appeared in three games during the Florida trip going four innings and only giving up one run.
  • Freshman Noah Hamilton (Fowler, Mich. / Fowler) pitched a scoreless eighth where he earned his first career strikeout.

Up Next

Alma heads to Lexington, Kentucky next weekend for a three-game series with Transylvania University. The series starts with a doubleheader scheduled to start Saturday, March 9 at 12:00 p.m.
