Morrissey Shoots New Career Low in First Event of the Year

Battle Creek, Mich. - The Alma College men's golf team opened its season at the Lou Collins Invitational on Friday (August 31), placing 13th out of 14 teams on Day 1 of the tournament. The Scots were led by sophomore Tait Morrissey (Canadian Lakes, Mich. / Big Rapids) who shot a 77 (+5), beating his previous career low by two strokes. Alma shot 342 as a team, averaging 85.5 per golfer.

Senior Kyle Bodkins (Ada, Mich. / Forest Hills Central) shot an 82 (+10), one stroke off last year's season low. Senior Bennett Schmitt (Frankfort, Mich. / Frankfort) shot an 85 (+12) to place third for Alma.

Spring Arbor's Cameron Conley finished in first place with a 67 (-5). Josh Gibson and Daniel Settecerri, both from Hope, tied for second with a 71 (-1). They were the only three golfers under par. Hope finished the first day of the tournament in first place with 287 strokes; all five of its golfers that were eligible to score shot +1 or better.

Notables

Tait Morrissey had 11 pars on the day, tied for fourth best among all golfers.
