Box Score Alma, Mich. - The Alma College volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Olivet on Wednesday (Sept. 27). Alma is now 5-9 overall and 2-5 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association while Olivet improves to 4-12 and 2-5.
What Happened
- Olivet took the first set 25-18. A 7-1 run in the middle of the set gave the Comets control with a 17-9 lead. Katie Bush (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) had three kills in the set.
- The Scots forced Olivet into nine errors in the second set as the Comets hit -.098. Alma tied the match at one with a 25-15 win in set two. Brianna Zimmer (Mt. Pleasant, Mich. / Mt. Pleasant), Kara Muxlow (Brown City, Mich. / Brown City) and Georgia Miller (Georgetown, Ky. / Scott Country) each had three kills in the set. Alma spotted the Comets three points to start the set but responded with a 16-5 run.
- The third set saw both teams take control for portions of the set. Olivet went on a 9-3 run to take a 17-10 lead but Alma responded with a 10-2 run to take a 20-19 lead. The Comets would score six of the final eight points to win the set.
- The fourth set was tightly contested throughout; neither team had a lead greater than three points. Olivet scored eight of the game's final 11 points to win the set 25-23 and the game 3-1.
Notables
- Miller led the team with 13 kills and 24 digs. It is the ninth time in 14 games Miller has led the team in digs and the seventh time she has led in kills this season. Her 24 digs ties her career-high. As of the end of the match, Miller is eighth in the conference in digs with 212 and eighth in digs per set at 4.16.
- Alma had 16 kills in the fourth set, its most in any set of the match.
- Miller had five kills in the fourth set, the most of any Scot in any set.
- Bush led the team in attack percentage at .227.
